All programs are defined in competencies, usually in terms of applied work skills.
Grades are normally given in the form of "Competent" or "Not yet competent." For transfer credit purposes (e.g. higher education), students may also apply for a letter grade as follows:
B Passing at one AQF level higher than the level of the student's qualification.
C Minimum passing requirement
D Fails to meet minimum passing requirement
E Very poor
To gain a grade of C or above, students must first achieve Competent for all unit requirements. That is, students may not compensate for failing a particular unit requirement by achieving well on other requirements.
Time totals in US-style semester hours are also available.
