This unit is about good teamwork.

 

 

How you will be assessed

You will be assessed in the workplace under workplace conditions interacting and cooperating with the normal range of other workers. This may include the use of languages other than English and alternative communication systems (e.g. Auslan).

This unit will be assessed by:

  • Give your assessor a walkaround tour of your workplace, and describe your organization, its goals, and what you do. You assessor may ask any relevant questions in order to understand what you do.
  • Supervisor observation of your contribution in team meetings
  • Review of your workplan and your workplace documents
  • Interview based on the requirements below.

 

Interview

  1. Explain your role and what you are responsible for:
    1. In your job,
    2. In awards and workplace agreements, and
    3. Under law (legislation).
  2. About the other people you work with, what do they do and what are they responsible for?
  3. In your organization, how can a staff member complain about something wrong? What is the procedure?
  4. In your organization, how can a client complain about something wrong? What is the procedure?
  5. What are the working conditions outlined in the award, workplace agreement, policy manuals etc.?

 

 

Detailed requirements

1. Plan your own workload with your supervisor (Note: Your workload plan may be recorded on whiteboards, rosters, in diaries, or in verbal instructions.)

  1. Actively ask for help and direction when you need it.
  2. Plan the sequence of tasks with supervisor.
  3. With your supervisor, develop strategies to cope with unexpected demands.
  4. Adhere to your own roles and responsibilities in the workplace.

2. Communicate with others about work matters

  1. Share information about the work with your co-workers.
  2. Communicate clearly, concisely and with the focus on the issue.
  3. Listen appropriately to opinions and suggestions of others.
  4. Address concerns using workplace procedures.

3. Work cooperatively with others.

  1. Identify people’s different roles and responsibilities and show respect for them.
  2. Show respect for the rights of your co-workers.
  3. Keep your work area well organized and safe according to relevant standards/policies.
  4. Complete your assigned tasks according to your planned workload.

4. Use positive communication skills such as:

  1. Listen actively
  2. Use appropriate body language
  3. Asking questions
  4. Clarifying
  5. Listening for instructions

5. Other required skills

  1. Use basic workplace technology and equipment in line with workplace requirements and instructions.
  2. Demonstrate language, literacy and numeracy competence appropriate to the requirements of the organization, job role and client group. The language used may be English or a community language.
