BSBINN301 Promote innovation in a team environment
This unit is about being an effective and proactive member of an innovative team. It applies both to team meetings but also the way you contribute to developing a positive culture.
How you will be assessed
You will be assessed through:
- Assessor observation on the job
- Supervisor reference (if the assessor is not the supervisor)
- Review of your workplace documents (e.g. procedures)
- Interview/assignment based on the requirements below.
Practical
You will be assessed in the workplace as a safe environment. You will need to include access to:

- Explain what innovation is, the different types of innovation and the benefits of innovation.
- Describe the internal and external factors that contribute to a team becoming and remaining innovative including:

1. Apply practices that promote innovation within the team
- Set an example of open and respectful communications.
- Contribute to the make-up and rules of the team.
- Contribute to planning and scheduling activities.
- Reflect on activities, feedback and challenges to identity improvement options.
- Encourage others to contribute to innovation in the team.
- Implement improvements and communicate about them.
2. Create opportunities to maximize innovation in the team.
- Reflectively evaluate what the team needs and wants to achieve.
- Check out information about current or potential team members’ work in the context of developing a more innovative team.
- Bring people into the team or make suggestions for team members based on what needs to be achieved and the potential for cross-fertilizing ideas.
- Acknowledge, respect and discuss the different ways that people may contribute to building or enhancing the team.
3. Organize and agree on effective ways of working.
- Jointly establish ground rules for how the team will operate.
