This unit is about being an effective and proactive member of an innovative team. It applies both to team meetings but also the way you contribute to developing a positive culture.

You will be assessed through:


 

Practical

You will be assessed in the workplace as a safe environment. You will need to include access to:

  1. workplace documents.
  2. case studies and, where possible, real situations.
  3. office equipment and resources.
  4. interaction with others.

 

Interview/assignment questions

  1. Explain what innovation is, the different types of innovation and the benefits of innovation.
  2. Describe the internal and external factors that contribute to a team becoming and remaining innovative including:
    1. team characteristics.
    2. the role of group dynamics and diversity.
    3. broader environmental factors.
  3. Explain how activities can encourage or hinder innovation in a team including:
    1. allocation of time and activities.
    2. modelling behaviour.
    3. rewards and recognition.
    4. communications.
    5. feedback.

Note: Your assessor may also ask you a variety of what if questions.

1. Apply practices that promote innovation within the team

  1. Set an example of open and respectful communications.

2. Create opportunities to maximize innovation in the team.

  1. Reflectively evaluate what the team needs and wants to achieve.
  2. Check out information about current or potential team members’ work in the context of developing a more innovative team.
  3. Bring people into the team or make suggestions for team members based on what needs to be achieved and the potential for cross-fertilizing ideas.
  4. Acknowledge, respect and discuss the different ways that people may contribute to building or enhancing the team.

 

3. Organize and agree on effective ways of working.

  1. Jointly establish ground rules for how the team will operate.
