BSBINN601 Lead and manage organisational change

This unit is about determining strategic change requirements and opportunities and then developing, implementing and evaluate change management strategies.

It applies to people with responsibilities that extend across the organisation or across significant parts of a large organisation. In a school, you will normally oversee a planning area. The unit takes a structured approach to change management and applies to people with considerable work experience and organisational knowledge.

Your submitted work must show that you have satisfactorily

  1. Analyzed and interpreted information about the organisation's internal and external environment and consult with stakeholders to identify requirements and opportunities for changes that support organisational objectives
  2. Prioritized opportunities for changes with input from managers
  3. Developed a change management project plan for the priority changes incorporating resource requirements, risk management and timelines
  4. Developed strategies to communicate or educate the changes and embed them
  5. Obtained approvals and agree reporting protocols with relevant managers and implement the plan including addressing barriers to change
  6. Reviewed and evaluated the change management project plan, and modified as needed to achieve objectives.

  1. Explain the change management process or cycle and strategies for communicating and embedding change
  2. Explain how organisational behaviour and the external environment can impact on change strategies
  3. Describe the components of a change management project plan
  4. What are the potential barriers to change? For each one, explain possible strategies to address them.

 

Detailed requirements

1. Identify change requirements and opportunities

  1. Identify strategic change needs by analyzing organisational objectives
  2. Review existing policies and practices against strategic objectives to identify where changes are needed
  3. Monitor the external environment to identify events or trends that affect the achievement of your organisation’s objectives
  4. Identify any need to make major changes in operations due to performance gaps, business opportunities or threats, or management decisions
  5. Review and prioritise change requirements or opportunities with relevant managers
  6. Consult stakeholders, specialists and experts to help identify major change requirements and opportunities

 

2. Develop a change management strategy

  1. Do a cost-benefit analysis for high priority change requirements and opportunities
  2. Do a risk analysis. Solve any problems and/or innovate to identify barriers to change. Get aggreement on mitigation strategies and record them
  3. Write a change management project plan
  4. Get approvals from relevant authorities to confirm the change management process
  5. Assign resources to the project and agree on how peole will report to you.

 

3. Implement change management strategy

  1. Develop a communication or education plan, in consultation with relevant groups and individuals, to promote the benefits of the change to the organisation and to minimise loss
  2. Arrange and manage activities to communicate with or education relevant groups and individuals (according to the plan)
  3. Consult with relevant groups and individuals for input into the change process
  4. Identify any barriers to change and respond to according to your risk management plans
  5. Intervene and act to embed change according to the project plan and its timetable
  6. Do regular evaluations, and review and modify the project plan as appropriate to achieve the objectives of the change program.
