This unit is about determining individual and team development needs and developing the team.
How you will be assessed
You will be assessed through:
- Assessor observation on the job
- Supervisor reference (if the assessor is not the supervisor)
- Review of your workplace documents (e.g. procedures)
- Interview/assignment based on the requirements below.
Practical
You will be assessed in the workplace as a safe environment and will need access to:
- office equipment and resources.
- learning and development plans, policies and procedures.
- case studies and, where available, real situations.
- interaction with others.
You need to show that you have done the following:
- Collect feedback on team and individual performance.
- Give and receive feedback from team members to encourage them to participate in the team and make it more effective.
- Collaboratively develop learning plans to match skill needs of individuals and groups.
- Give mentoring and coaching to teams and individuals.
- Monitor and review workplace learning.
- Perform consistently in typical activities in this field of competency.

Detailed requirements
1. Determine development needs and goals.
- Identify your organisation’s skill requirements (e.g. industry standards, requirements of the job or the operational plan.)
- Systematically identify learning and development needs according to your organisation’s requirements.
- Identify learning and development program goals and objectives, and check that they match the specific knowledge and skill requirements of industry competency standards.
- As a team, collaboratively develop a learning plan to meet the training and development needs of individuals and the group. Get their agreement and implement it.
- Encourage individuals to evaluate their own performance and to identify areas for improvement.
- Identify suitable sources of feedback on team members’ performance.
- Collect feedback on team members’ performance and compare it with the team’s learning goals and needs.
2. Develop individuals and teams.
- Systematically identify and implement learning opportunities for others.
- Check that that they way it wil be provided (learning delivery methods) are appropriate to the goals, the learning style of participants, and available equipment and resources.
- Give learning opportunities in the workplace so that individuals and the team can achieve competencies.
- You can give coaching and mentoring or ensure that someone else does it.
- Use various activities and support materials that suite what people are aupposed to be learning.
- Identify and approve resources and time lines required for learning activities according to your organization’s requirements.
3. Monitor and evaluate workplace learning.
- Use feedback from individuals or teams to identify and implement improvements in future learning arrangements.
- Assess and record outcomes and performance of individuals/teams. Use it to seeh how effective the program was and how much extra support team members need.
- Negotiate modifications to learning plans to make learning more efficient and effective.
- Document and maintain records and reports of competency according to your organization’s requirements.
