BSBWOR501 Manage personal work priorities and professional development
This unit is about creating systems and processes to organize information and prioritize tasks. It applies to managers. The work ethic of individuals in this role has a significant impact on the work culture and patterns of behaviour of others as managers at this level are role models in their work environment.
How you will be assessed
You will be assessed through:
- Assessor observation on the job
- Supervisor reference (if the assessor is not the supervisor)
- Review of your workplace documents (e.g. procedures)
- Interview/assignment based on the requirements below.
Practical
You will be assessed in a real situation on the job. It must be a safe environment with access to workplace equipment and resources, and interaction with others.
You need to show that you have done the following:
- Use business technology to create and use systems and processes to organize and prioritise tasks and commitments
- Measure and maintain personal work performance including assessing competency against competency standards and seeking feedback
- Maintain an appropriate work-life balance to manage personal health and stress
- Participate in networks
- Develop a personal development plan which includes career objectives and an action plan
- Develop new skills
- Manage tasks and contingencies on the job.
Demonstrate consistent performance of typical activities as a manager.

Detailed requirements
1. Establish your personal work goals,
- Set a positive example in the workplace through good personal work planning.
- Ensure that your personal work goals, plans and activities reflect the organization's plans, as well as your own responsibilities
- Measure and maintain your personal performance in varying conditions and contexts, including when things go wrong or not as expected.
2. Set and meet your own work priorities
- Take initiative to prioritize and facilitate competing demands to achieve personal and team goals, and and your organization’s goals and objectives
- Use technology efficiently and effectively to manage work priorities and commitments
- Maintain an appropriate work-life balance
- Manage stress effectively and attend to your health.
3. Develop and maintain your professional competence
- Assess personal knowledge and skills against competency standards to determine development needs, priorities and plans
