BSBWOR502 Lead and manage team effectiveness.

This unit is about leading teams in the workplace and actively engaging with the your organization’s management. It applies to managers who lead teams and build a positive culture within their work teams.

You will be assessed through:


 

Practical

You will be assessed in the workplace as a safe environment. You will need to demonstrate consistent performance of typical activities as a manager and will need access to:

  1. workplace documents.
  2. case studies and, where possible, real situations.
  3. office equipment and resources.
  4. interaction with others.

You will need to show that you can:

  1. Use leadership techniques and strategies to facilitate team cohesion and work outcomes including:
    1. encouraging and fostering shared understanding of purpose, roles and responsibilities.
    2. identifying and resolving problems.
    3. providing feedback to encourage, value and reward others.
    4. being an example of desired behaviour and practices.
  2. Develop policies and procedures to ensure team members take responsibility for your work and assist others to perform their required roles and responsibilities.
  3. Establish processes to address issue and resolve performance issues.
  4. Support team to meet their performance goals, including giving formal and informal learning opportunities as needed.
  5. Develop performance plans with key performance indicators (KPIs), outputs and goals for individuals or the team, incorporating stakeholder input.
  6. Communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders about team performance plans and team performance.
  7. Facilitate two-way flow of information between team and management about team performance.
  8. Evaluate and correct unresolved issues, concerns and problems raised by internal or external stakeholders.

Detailed requirements

1. Establish a team performance plan.

  1. Consult team members to establish a common understanding of team purpose, roles, responsibilities and accountabilities according to your organization’s goals, plans and objectives.
  2. Develop performance plans to establish expected outcomes, outputs, key performance indicators (KPIs) and goals for work team.
  3. Support team members in meeting expected performance outcomes.

2. Develop and facilitate team cohesion.

  1. Develop strategies to ensure team members have input into planning, decision making and operational aspects of work team.
  2. Develop policies and procedures to ensure team members take responsibility for your work and assist others to perform their required roles and responsibilities.
  3. Give feedback to team members to encourage, value and reward individual and team efforts and contributions.
  4. Develop processes to ensure that issues, concerns and problems identified by team members are recognized and addressed.

3. Facilitate teamwork.

  1. Encourage team members and individuals to participate in and to take responsibility for team activities, including communication processes.
  2. Support the team in identifying and resolving work performance problems.
  3. Ensure your contribution to team serves as a role model for others and enhances your organization’s image for all stakeholders.

4. Liaise with stakeholders.

  1. Establish and maintain open communication processes with all stakeholders.
  2. Communicate information from line manager/management to the team.
  3. Communicate unresolved issues, concerns and problems raised by team members and follow-up with line manager/management and other relevant stakeholders.
  4. Evaluate and take necessary corrective action regarding unresolved issues, concerns and problems raised by internal or external stakeholders.
