This unit is about adding depth to your expertise in a specialist field or technique. It is particularly applicable where techniques require a high level of skill and coordination. At this level, workers get limited guidance and can also be responsible for mentoring others on the job. Depending on the specialist area, guidance from mentors and experienced practitioners could be expected.

Practical

You will be assessed in the workplace as a safe environment, and must demonstrate consistent performance of typical activities in creative arts industry environments. You need access to an environment where conceptual ideas can be reviewed and evaluated with others, and where skills and knowledge can be developed. You also need access to appropriate technology and sources of information to research industry trends.

You need to show that you have:

  1. Evaluated your skills and knowledge against planned strategies and career goals
  2. Applied planned strategies to develop and improve your skills and knowledge
  3. Researched trends in your area of specialisation.

 

Interview/assignment questions

  1. Describe commonly used methods for researching new developments in your area of specialisation.
  2. What sources of information are appropriate for identify industry trends?
  3. Explain how the following laws apply to your area of specialisation:
    1. copyright
    2. intellectual property
    3. work health and safety (WHS)
  4. What are the implications of adopting emerging trends in your area of specialisation for yourself? For your organisation?
  5. In your specialization, describe key aspects of:
    1. Its theoretical context.
    2. Its historical contexts.

  2. Examine and clarify implications and consequences of trends for your practice
  3. Review and evaluate trends with appropriate personnel to explore, develop and express conceptual ideas

  5. Keep your knowledge of legislative requirements up to date as required
