Creating portfolios
Did you know?
A child's art work can help you identify their interests and developmental level.
At Cybertots, staff develop a portfolio for each child during their time in their care. The portfolio provides a profile of the child, and helps staff identify their interests, strengths and needs.
The main components of each child's portfolio are as follows.
- Photographs: Photographs provide us with information about a child's behaviour, attitudes, development and interests. They're an effective way to show parents and guardians what their child is involved in during their time in your care.
- Art work: Art work can help you identify a child's interests and developmental level.
- Observations: Observing of a child is an accurate way of learning more about their interests, strengths and needs. There are many methods of observing, and which method you choose will depend on what you want to find out.
- Conversations (documented and audio-recorded): Keeping a record of conversations that take place lets you find out what the child is interested in and their strengths and needs, as well as giving you information about their language development.
- Parent/guardian information: Information supplied by parents and guardians can help you understand the likes and dislikes of the children in your care, and as keep up to date with things that are happening in their homes.
