Have you considered routines and transitions?
- responsive to individual needs of children
- calm and not rushed
- adults sit with the children as an integral part of routine
- a range of dispersal and settling strategies
- children are involved in all aspects to promote self-help and independence skills.
What about the layout of playroom and playground?
- clear pathways
- active/passive areas
- juxtaposition, ie what goes next to what?
- spaces for 1 child, 2 children, 3 children, 4 children
- play spaces are 1.5 times the number of children.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- How does your room sound and smell?
- Does it convey a positive image?
- How do you feel working in this environment?
- How do you think the children feel in this environment?
- Is it interesting for the children?
- Are there elements of beauty?
- Are there unique features that capture the children's interest to explore and use their imagination?
- Are there any unexpected pleasures?
- Are the play spaces uncluttered, tidy and safe?
