For us 'education' means the classroom. This is probably the most artificial technique ever devised for conveying instruction.

It is entirely too easy for us to lose sight of the fact that other societies educate their children even though they don't have formal schools. Children are taught fishing, hunting, house-building, tribal beliefs, all in the natural surroundings of meaningful activity.

They do have methods of teaching that are effective. How is it given?

For us, much of our teaching is given (even in physical areas) and has nothing to do with life. And much of what we learned (were taught) in high school, we'll never use. This attitude of doing what we are taught is carried over into Christianity. When we teach we almost take for granted that people won't know anything about it and won't apply it.

If we can find out how they reach, and synchronize our way of teaching with theirs, it may make a difference if we get a point across or not. Christianity will them come in an 'accustomed' way - a way that's 'natural" to them. Not just in spiritual areas but in physical areas - how will you teach? Whom will you teach? To them what are good learning conditions? Large gatherings, both sex, preaching, noisy, discussion?

How can we find out? By taking one area at a time, just like we take one universal at a time to find out culture.
