Natural places such as mountains, rocks, single trees, rivers, etc., may be regarded as sacred - as the abode of spirits. Shrines are structures sacred to a cult and rituals are performed there. These may be a building or part of a building, inside a house, etc. Sacred objects may be objects that are worshipped or objects used in ritual. Images may be the representation of a spirit and be sacred at all times.

Cubeo

To them the river is sacred as are certain musical instruments - flutes, trumpets. To bathe in the river to the accompaniment of the sacred trumpets is a ritual of growth magic to the young man. They receive strength from their ancestors this way.

Dusun

Male ritual experts use small oval flattened stones with stick figures of humans drawn on them to serve as means of contact with the creator.

Hopi

The sacred objects they have are among other things the 'kachina' dolls.

They represent the ancestral spirits of the clans. They also make prayer sticks with feathers attached, over which they sprinkle cornflour and offer prayer for blessings.
