Designing a process to help a child learn a new skill
Did you know?
An awareness and understanding of the stages of development will enable you to offer age/stage appropriate activities.
Now that you know how to go about introducing a new skill or task to a child and encouraging them as they learn to master it, it is your turn to come up with some ways to help children learn new skills.
Design a process that will let you guide a child to learn specific self help skills.
Your process should include the following:
- the age group you are targeting - 0 to 2 years, 2 to 3 years, 3 to 5 years or 6 to 12 years
- what the task/self-help skills are
- what the steps in the task are
- how you will discuss the steps in the task with the child
- what verbal and non-verbal encouragement you will use
- how much time you will allow for the task
- what planned and spontaneous experiences you will use to provide opportunities for practice
- any other information you feel is relevant.
Write your process in order in your notebook.
