Shift worker

This is a job description for a shift worker in a residential drug and alcohol recovery centre.

  1. Work under the supervision of the shift leader at the time.
  2. Learn all the tasks of a shift leader, including all relevant procedures.
  3. Take more responsibility as assigned by the shift leader (e.g. take residents on outings, monitor residents when the shift leader is absent)
  4. Be on call by telephone when rostered to support shift leaders.
  5. Make all decisions for general program implementation.
  6. Refer any problem that is too difficult to the senior worker on duty.
  7. Act as team leader for a group of residents.
  8. Maintain documentation: e.g. Day Book, medication, money, wallets, etc.
  9. Access safe for house-keeping, petty cash, medications, residents' wallets etc.
  10. Shift workers often also have the on role of House Leader. This includes overseeing all practical aspects of running a house for residents:
    1. Oversee chore monitor. (A more senior resident may take on this role within their separate houses.)
    2. Monitor resdients in the house and report any concerns to the shift leader
    3. Maintain the structure and ethos of the organization within the individual house.
