Shift leader

This is a job description for a shift leader in a residential drug and alcohol recovery centre.

  1. Handle all routine inquiries and problems for which there is a procedure, including crises
  2. Oversee and monitor shift documentation (e.g. Day Book, medication, money, wallets, etc.)
  3. Oversee or run groups
  4. Supervise helpers and shift workers
  5. Train trainee shift workers on the job:
    1. Show them what to do
    2. Help them do it
    3. Give them constructive feedback
    4. Give them responsibility when they are ready
  6. Refer non-routine problems to the staff senior worker on call at the time
  7. Act as case manager of individual resdents.
  8. May be called upon to make final decisions in crisis situations.
